Unique Germany on a shoestring budget

My brother and I are going to Germany the last part of March stretching into the first part of April 2010. We fly in and out of Frankfurt and will be there for a week. We have both been there before and pretty much seen all of the large cities and attractions, we can also speak the language. We are looking for truly unique experiences and are always up for an adventure. We are both beer connoisseurs and would like to go to a local festival or two festivals if there are any. Also, we are going to try to be as frugal as possible, that being said we are willing to spend the money for a great experience, but not simply for convenience or luxury. We are looking for suggestions for our trip, any ideas for stops or an itinerary will be much appreciated!!!

As you speak German, you might start at %26quot;Yahoo Deutschland%26quot; or other search engine. I searched %26quot;Bierfest April 2010%26quot; and came up with hits.

Sometimes I have looked off the tourist beaten path. I have not noticed that rooms are necessarily cheaper there. You can often find a better room bargain in Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Rheintal than in say Kulmbach (a good beer) or Coburg. I have found room bargains in smaller villages but question what we would do in early April, when walks in the country would be a little less inviting. You can stay in small villages and visit larger towns but transportation costs might eat up much of your savings.

We most often visit Franken east of Frankfurt am Main. Prices are moderate and we like the towns. Beyond about Aschaffenburg, you spend the whole time in Bayern, so you can use the economical Bayern-Ticket for travel. We use HRS.Com to search for relative room bargains in the towns (Würzburg, Bamberg, etc.).

To find rooms in smaller villages; it is often better to use their websites, which you can locate through %26quot;Yahoo Deutschland%26quot;. I liked the villages on the Main River like Ochsenfurt, known more for wine than beer.

You can plan a rewarding vacation of a week or two around any spot in Germany. There is so much to see and do everywhere, and often the best is outside the large cities.

Take a map of Germany and a pin, blindfold your eyes, and toss the pin at the map. Tell us where the pin landed. We will for sure find enough suggestions within a circle of 100 kms radius around that point to fill a week.

Seriously! You wanted an adventure, right?
