Week long stay in Frankfurt in March?

Hello!

My husband and I are planning to fly into Frankfurt in March for a week and I was looking for suggestions on where to stay in the city? We are looking for a place in a convenient location, comfortable and reasonably priced. We plan on spending most of our time exploring the city...so a safe place to lay our head.

Any recommendations? Even just names of neighborhoods or parts of the city to focus our search for a hotel would be very helpful, thank you in advance!

Why would you stay a week in Frankfurt? There are definitely more interesting places in Germany.....

Frankfurt is a wonderful place to stay, not only for the many activities, cultural and otherwise, but also because it is easy for you to go to other places. Like Heidelberg, Bad Homburg, Mainz, the Rhein, etc. We have beautiful old neighborhoods, lovely medieval churches, and lots of museums. I doubt if you will get bored here.

If you%26#39;re planning to see the surrounding area by train (which I would recommend, seeing as Frankfurt itself isn%26#39;t likely to keep you busy for a week) I would suggest you look for a hotel close to the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof). The area isn%26#39;t particularly charming, but it%26#39;s safe enough and only 10-15 mins walk from the centre of the city and the old town. There are LOADS of hotels dotted around Frankfurt and in this particular area every second building is a hotel. You will be spoilt for choice.

Thank you to those with helpful advice! We were looking to book a flight + hotel for the week together, but now I am thinking maybe we should not book one hotel for the solid week.

If we took a train to other areas, is it possible to stay in Frankfurt and do a few %26quot;day%26quot; trips, or would you recommend moving around the country and staying in different cities?

We just decided this week to go, so I apologize for not having done my research yet and I am mainly looking for some things to consider. We are pretty relaxed people and not concerned with doing everything, just mainly having a good time and exploring a new place.

Thank you!

Frankfurt is an excellent base for day trips, as it is one of Germany%26#39;s biggest train hubs. Within the range of one or one and a half hours you have several dozens of options.

Try to avoid the last week of March as there is a Music, Light %26amp; sound exhibiton going on so I can imagin the difficulty in getting a hotel room or the premium you%26#39;ll need to pay for it.

The Music Trade Fair is from Mar. 24-27.

The Light %26amp; Building Fair is from 11-16 Apr.

The Light fair conincides with the Luminale 2010, which would be a wonderful time to visit Frankfurt. Especially if you are a photographer. Take a look at this set of photos in Frankfurt at the last one.
