2010 Passion Play

I am interested in going to the Passion Play in 2010. Don%26#39;t want to go with a tour. Just visited central europe this summer and was in Oberammergau. Some friends and I want to go to the 2010 Play. How do I find about tickets and what is available as far as hotels or actually staying in a locals home? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Donna; I will be doing a tour for the 2010 Passion play, also did it with the same group of friends in 2000, and on our own in 1984---that year was not in the every 10 year cycle but was a done because it was a special anniversary. Don%26#39;t be freightened away by all the warnings that tickets are going fast: we did not reserve ahead of time, just drove to Bavaria and showed up in Oberammergau the day before the performance, went to their office selling ticks and got them for my family of 3, no problem. Definitely suggest if you do it this way that you arrive a day ahead of time, buy your ticks for the next days performance, then get a place to stay for the night. If the area around Oberam has no rooms, try the tiny village of Ettal, no more than 10-15 minutes by car. If you stay in Ettal(even if you don%26#39;t)do not miss the amazing monastery church, a Roccoco gem. Also suggest that you consider taking in the October Fest in nearby Munich(the fest actually starts in Sept)so if you plan it right, you can do both events(the P.PLay goes to Oct.).regards, r.hurley(hurley7of10@hotmail.com)

Hey Rick

Read your post and I%26#39;m intrigued...........How much were your tickets for the Passion Play and where were your seats located? We attended with a tour group in 2000 and had EXCELLENT seats. Would really like to go again in 2010 and I%26#39;m considering other options.

Thnx!

Hey

I was going to post but found this one and it answered all of my questions about the play..I didn%26#39;t know where the town was so I looked at a map and was happy to see it is in BAVARIA,,one of the most beautful places on earth ..in my opinion..have fun everyone.

Hey, Donna. I don%26#39;t know if you have gotten your question answered or not, but here%26#39;s the Passion Play website: http://pilatushaus.de/index.php?id=60

The ticket information is there along with lots of other good info. I%26#39;m also planning on going and will probably be staying in Mittenwald--they have a good website also: www.mittenwald.de/index.shtml?en_mittenwald

From what I understand on the PP website, we will be able to order tickets for the play w/o accomodations starting in Spring %26#39;09. If anyone has a different understanding, I would love to hear about it!!

If anyone has suggestions for us Passion Play planners, please chime in. Since the event only happens every 10 years, gathering info is a little difficult. I guess the main questions are: how difficult is it to find lodging during PP years? Is it difficult to get tickets ahead of the trip? Since I%26#39;m bringing a group of 10-12 people, I%26#39;m not sure I want to wait until I get there. Also, does it make sense to stay in Mittenwald and use that as a base?

Thanks!

Kathrine

I don%26#39;t mean to be replying to my own post, but I want to make it clear that I am not a travel agent or tour guide, just an individual with some friends from church who want to make this trip!

Donna,

If you are still checking this post here is the link to the official Passion Play website.

http://www.oberammergau.de/ot_e/index.htm

Also, while I am here, I have a question. Is the play performed completely in German? I suppose there is a program that explains each part of the performance.

I read where the performance is 7 hours long with a meal before and food at intermission (5-8pm)! What time of day does the play start? ...

Apologies - I just found the answer to the last question on the official website:

Daily:

Performance - Part 1 from 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Performance - Part 2 from 8.00 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Here is the local contact information from the website also:

We went to the Passion Play in Oberammergau in 2000 and are planning to go again in 2010. We went on our own -not on a tour - and had wonderful seats, wonderful accommodations. Tickets are now on sale (Jan 2009) for 2010. There is only one place you can buy tickets on your own, and that is the reiseburo (tourist office) in Oberammergau. Their website is www.passionsspiele 2010de. Or info@passionspiele2010.de. They have one or two night packages (includes meals) or you may just purchase tickets only. The play is in German, but they give you a playbook in English, so it is not hard to follow along. There is a wide choice of accommodations. The play will start at 2:30 pm for the first time (usually it started in the morning), with a dinner break, and goes until 10:30 pm. I believe there are three performances a week. They start in May and end in early Oct. I hope this helps somebody.

I%26#39;ve too been looking around for information on visiting the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2010 and most of the suggestions point towards an organised package. There are a lot of posts saying that accommodation and tickets are quite limited and hard to come by for independent travellers.

I%26#39;ve found the following sites to be quite informative about organised tours:

http://www.oberammergau2010passionplay.com/

http://www.oberammergau2010tours.co.uk/

www.oberammergaupassionplay2010.com.au/

http://www.escortedcoachtours.co.uk/

http://www.passionplaytours.com/

Here%26#39;s a link to the official Oberammergau Passion Play site that may be able to help with independent arrangements:

If anybody else can advise it sure would be really welcome.

Can you offer a comparison of the three seating categories? Are the %26quot;3%26quot; seats any good? Do you have any recommendations? Thank you.
