Car Rental in Oberammergau

Is it possible to rent a car in Oberammergau and drop it off at the Munich Airport? Our tour ends in Oberammergau and we would like to spend a few extra days in the area before returning home. If so, do you have a # or web site for rental car agency.

Unless there will be some special arrangements made for the Passion Play in 2010, there is no rental car place in this village. Your best bet is to go by public transport (see www.bahn.de) to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and get the car there. It should take you less than hour to get to GP.

Hi LuckyLin,

I live in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, just a quick bus-ride away from Oberammergau (a town I love).

If you tell us what you are interesting in doing for your few days, you may find that you don%26#39;t need a rental car at all. This area of Bavaria has a wonderful network of trains and busses, and it%26#39;s a comfortable and fun way to travel.

Have fun with your plans!

Since we will be there on a Sunday, we would like to go to Mass at the Weis Church and then precede to Fussen and the Neuschwastein Castle and be back in Munich Monday PM for an early morning flight on Tues.

Hi again,

Oh yes you can do this very easily by bus from gorgeous Oberammergau.

From Oberammergau to Füssen, the bus ride is 1h24 or 1h56, either direct or one or two changes.

From Oberammergau to Wieskirche, the bus ride is 38 to 43 minutes, either direct or with one change.

To get to München airport, just take the train and transfer in Murnau and München; it%26#39;ll take about two hours.

Sometimes Americans can be intimidated by public transportation in Europe, but there%26#39;s really no need! It%26#39;s very user-friendy, most folks speak English, and you can get all your schedules and transfer information online at

www.bahn.de

(be careful about the spelling, though, as you want %26quot;Fuessen%26quot; or %26quot;Füssen%26quot; and NOT %26quot;Fussen..%26quot;)

You can also ask your hosts (at your hotel or B%26amp;B),and they will explain everything to do. Taking trains and busses is a great way to travel; it%26#39;s very relaxing and fun, and you get to see some more local residents.

Let me know if you%26#39;d like more info!

I have rented a car before in Oberammergau twice. The last time was six years ago and it was through the local Opel place. It%26#39;s located on the way out of Oberammergau towards the bypass. I am not sure if it%26#39;s still there or not. I see something in German on www.oberammergau.de for cars but cannot read it.

Hertz, I believe, is in Garmisch which is down the hill from Oberammergau. You can get back to Munich from Garmisch too!
