We%26#39;ll be flying into Paris where we%26#39;ll spend 4 nights then flying out of Frankfurt 6 nights later. We%26#39;ll be spending the last night at the Frankfurt Airport Sheraton because we really aren%26#39;t into large cities. We prefer smaller villages to visit and spend the night. Any suggestions of where to go and stay? Would 2 nights in Rothenburg be a good idea? That would leave 3 nights to spend else where.

If you prefer smaller towns, why would you stay at the airport Sheraton which is in the middle of nothing, except it is next to the airport and probably costs 4 times as much to stay overnight as anyplace else. I can%26#39;t think of a less soulless place to stay then there.
Frankfurt is surrounded by many small towns and villages that are connected to the city by a quick S-bahn ride. Places like Dortelweil, Bad Vilbel, Bad Homburg, Königstein, Oberursel, Hofheim, etc. Staying in the Taunus is beautiful and makes more sense then staying at the airport.

Bit puzzled- while Rothenburg ob der T is a splendid place to stay, it%26#39;s no way between Parius and Frankfurt. It%26#39;s a good couple of hours BEYOND Frankfurt Airport, coming from Paris.
I heartliy commend it to you, but do bear that in mind!
And what time%26#39;s your flight? Agree Airport Sheraton is middle of nowhere, so would only countenance it for an early morning flight, personally.

Paris - Metz - Luxembourg - Trier - Moselle valley - Koblenz - Middle Rhine Valley

The only reason we%26#39;re staying at the airport Sheraton the night before our flight is because we have an early flights and the hotel is free with my sheraton points.

I would agree with Alabada%26#39;s post above. Gives you plenty of small villages to pick from and Trier is worth a day and a half...maybe 2. The Mosel and Rhine are beautiful and while going through Luxembourg you can visit the American Cemetery. Gives you the chance to see a lot, and is an efficient route, still have to drive around Frankfurt to get to Rothenburg if that is a must.

Goto Rudesheim am Rhein, it is a great little village on the Rhine river. From there you can take small boat trips to nearby villages, and do some walking on the hills. Also you can take ski lifts to the next village.
