German Beer Halls in Berlin?

Hi all - we are making a trip to Berlin in a few weeks to be there for the 9 November festivities. We are quite excited but one thing I have not done is find the best place to go for some great German beer and food. We are big fans of Augustiner and other Bavarian beers but also open to trying some quality beers from the Berlin area as well. Also looking for a good pork knuckle.

Are there places you would recommend?

We will be staying at the new Michelberger Hotel in Friedrichshain but we are of course open for finding something anywhere in the city.

Thank you for your time!

%26gt; German beer and food.

There is no such thing as German food or beer. There is Bavaria food and beer. And the ones of other regions, which are more or less different.

Yes, please try to keep in mind that Berlin is NOT Bavaria (not by a long shot; that%26#39;s about as bad as saying to someone from Edinburgh that he%26#39;s English...) - no one around here will drink beer from steins or dance polka (which isn%26#39;t even a German dance to begin with but that%26#39;s another story) and a cockoo clock is NOT an appropiate gift to bring back from Berlin. ;-)

I know you didn%26#39;t suggest any of that, but I felt it was time to stress this again...

As said Berlin is not Bavaria or v.v. but as you can find scottish restaurants in London you can fin Bavarian ones in Berlin. For example a branch of Löwenbräu,

Well, of course there%26#39;s Bavarian in Berlin just as there are other ethnic restaurants. :-D

Brew-pubs include the Lindenbräu on Potsdamer Platz linden-hopfinger-braeu.de/lindenbraeu/… which does have a Bavarian flair.

and the Georgbräu in the Nikolai Quarter, which is rather rustic Berlin than Bavarian www.georgbraeu.de/default.aspx…

Another brew pub is Lemke%26#39;s at Hackesche Markt: www.europeanbeerguide.net/berlpubs.htm#lemkes

And Weihenstephaner is Bavarian, also near Hackescher Markt, very good beer: http://www.weihenstephaner-berlin.de/

The Zur Letzten Instanz on Waisenstrasse near Klosterstrasse U-Bahn station doesn%26#39;t brew their own beers, but it IS a truly authentic Berlin tavern, said to be the oldest in the city (dating back to 1621). Pigs knuckle (Eisbein) and sauerkraut is an authentic Berlin pub dish.

Hi if you use google maps and put in Brauerei you will probably find what you are looking for. Many have there own websites so you can look at pictures and view menus. You can also put in your hotel name and address and click on the arrow on the map and search near by. Then use brauerei to see ones that are near your hotel. Google maps will also let you print off walking directions form your hotel.

Hello all - Thank you so much for your responses. This is quite helpful. I fully understand that food in Berlin is not the same as it is in Munich. I am though curious to try the flavours and beers in places that are authentic to Berlin. I apologise if I painted all of Germany with a single brush in my post.

I appreciate the suggestions. Very excited about our visit.

Our favourite beer is neither Bavarian nor from Berlin but served a lot in Berlin: Radeberger (from near Dresden). Served at the Saxon court aparently and later by the GDR embassies worldwide.

Do you know this site to compare beers www.beeeradvocate.com
