Berlin Food Specialities

Firstly I%26#39;d like to apologise in advance if this question has been answered previously - I did search the forums however there are so many posts on the topic of %26quot;food%26quot; and so few with the word %26quot;speciality%26quot; that I haven%26#39;t been able to find an answer to my question.

My husband and I are going to Berlin for a long weekend tomorrow to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. I am hoping to go out with him to a nice middle/upper-class restaurant to celebrate. However rather than opting for %26quot;fusion%26quot; or classical french food I would ideally like to go to a restaurant serving classical or even modern berliner cuisine.

This is proving difficult however, as with the exception of the famous %26quot;currywurst%26quot; (which we will definitely eat whilst we are there as we love currywurst) and eisbein (which I am not a fan of) I have been unable to identify any dishes specifically special to Berlin as opposed to german specialities in general. Can anybody tell me if I have just been unfortunate in my search or whether Berlin%26#39;s %26quot;local delicacies%26quot; are really only limited to these two items.....which I somehow can%26#39;t believe!

Living just south of the German border in Switzerland and still having relatives in the Pfalz we are very used to standard german cuisine (Leberknödel, Leber, Zwiebelrostbraten, Spätzle etc etc) hence me looking for something which we would ordinarily be able to savour at home.

Thanks for your help and advice. Any hints for restaurants fitting my requirements would obviously also be very welcome. To give you an idea of price we are generally accustomed to paying €50-70 per person (without drinks) for the quality of restaurant I am looking for.

oh - I forgot to add that we will be staying at the Marriott on Potsdamerplatz, so we would be looking for a fairly central restaurant around the Potsdamerplatz, Ku%26#39;damm or Unter den Linden areas.

We have also already reserved for brunch at the Bundestag, so Käfer is already covered....

The listed restaurants are however definitely not in the price range you gave.

Restaurant search on

berlin.de/restaurants/index.php/bo/defaultbo

First click on the map on %26quot;10...%26quot; (for central Berlin). Then give as %26quot;%26lt;Suchbegriff%26gt;%26quot; either %26quot;regional%26quot; or %26quot;Berliner%26quot; to find [click on Finden!] restaurants with regional or Berliner cuisine.

What about the Kaisersaal at Potsdamer Platz?

http://www.kaisersaal-berlin.de/

Old imperial architecture integrated into a new building.

Food is by Lutter%26amp;Wegner (their main branch is at Gendarmenmarkt).

http://www.l-w-berlin.de/

They describe their food as classical regional cuisine with an Austrian (!) touch.

A typical restaurant with Berliner cuisine looks however rather like this one

(I%26#39;ve selected of course a well rated example.)

Besten Dank Abalada.

There is a local restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg which has achieved quite a reputation with foodies visiting Berlin: the Oderquelle in Oderberger Strasse. They specialize in game, meat and vegetable delicacies from the local region, prepared in interesting - and sometimes unusual - ways. U-Bahn: Eberswalder Str., Tram M1.
