We are thinking of spending 3 nights in Munich from 1st January - 4th January as an after xmas/new year break, will everything be open that weekend - shops, restaurants etc. Would welcome advice, many thanks

New Years day will be mostly closed- and so it should be. Youre in town over a weekend with reduced opening hours too. Germany is not a 24 hour society- thankfully so. But I am sure the tourist eateries etc will be open for business.

Thanks for that, don%26#39;t think we will need 24hr opening just wondering if places of interest and shops would be open.

The 2nd of January is a Saturday so you should find enough placesof interest open.On Sunday everything except pubs and cafes (and I think the Deutsches Museum) will be shut. In any event, you will find Munich beautiful in the winter.

Shops are closed on public holidays (1st Jan.) and Sundays.
Restaurants will be open all these days.
On the 1st Jan also many sights and museums will be closed. But e.g. the Pinakotheken (art museums) are open on 1st Jan.

(You can switch to English after you have select one.)
The sights and museums are open (generally) on Sundays. Many of them will be however closed on Mondays. But e.g. the Deutsches Museum (technology) is also open on Mondays.

Don%26#39;t now if it%26#39;s an issue for you or not but Copenhagen would be a much more expensive city to visit.
