Late-ish flight - Dusseldorf or Cologne?

Hello

We are arriving in Dusseldorf airport at 8.30 p.m. on a Thursday night. We were thinking about booking an apartment outside of Cologne city centre to go to the Christmas markets.

Just wondering whether anyone had any thoughts on whether we%26#39;d be better off staying in Dusseldorf for ease on the Thursday night then moving on to Cologne on Friday morning or whether to get the train across to Cologne on the Thursday night (providing it doesn%26#39;t incur a late check in fee or similar...)

Any thoughts welcomed!

Düsseldorf airport is connected to a main train route. Check http://www.bahn.de for train connections and you%26#39;ll see that trains to Cologne run till late at night, so this is no problem.

You%26#39;ll have to make an appointment with the owners about your late arrival, though. Depending where your apartment is located, getting there by public transport can be a nuisance late at night. Ok there are always taxis.

Personally I%26#39;d prefer to get to Cologne rather than have to move again a second time. If you contact the place you are staying and let them know you have a late flight and give them an estimaged time of arrival you should be fine.

The train from Dusseldorf airport is very easy to catch the the journey isn%26#39;t too long.

The markets in Cologne are fantastic, we%26#39;re heading back for the third time this December.

If you are heading for Cologne go straight there. But the Christmas market in Dusseldorf is also very interesting. Actually I prefer that one, going there every year.

I%26#39;ve been to the Markets in Dusseldorf as well. There are around 6-7 in Cologne, ranging in size and include a medieval one and one on a boat.

There are aroun 4-5 in Dusseldorf. I personally prefer the one%26#39;s in Cologne but as I prefer the decorations you get there. But it%26#39;s all a personal choice. I%26#39;m still going to head to Dusseldorf for a day trip from Cologne this December.
