Reichstag

Hi,

can anyone recommend a good time to visit the Dome of the Reichstag - on my last visit to Berlin I queued up for over 30 mins in very cold weather and eventually gave up! This time I%26#39;d really like to see it. I%26#39;m visiting with a group of 10 family members (40%26#39;s - 70%26#39;s), arriving Wed./14th Oct, dep. Sun. 18th.

Cheers

Just get reservations at the restaurant. We went for breakfast. You totally bypass the line.

Yes, a reservation at the cafe will get you in with the queue. Otherwise, a lot of posts on this forum have suggested either arriving first thing in the morning as it opens, or late in the evening; I am sure if you search %26#39;Reichstag%26#39; here you%26#39;ll get the best possible info.

Hi there, just being a bit cheeky, but if you do find a good time to visit please submit a post we are travelling on the 22nd October for 5 nights..

Hi all,

many thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, somehow we didn%26#39;t notice any restaurant so ended up queuing for almost 1.5 hrs in the bitter cold. This was from 3.30pm and the Q looked very short - starting half way up the steps! When we finally got to the doors of the building we could see a sign advising that the Dome itself was closed for cleaning, but the Terrace was accessible. While the view from the latter was really good, we left wondering if our experience merited such a slow and frustrating queue. If the whole idea is to see democracy in action, then daytime is perhaps the time to go?

Oh how frustrating, so sorry to learn of your experience but thank you very much for sharing it, we are leaving this evening and will look but I don%26#39;t think I could queue for this long, booked dinner in TV Tower so will let this be the elevated experience, trust you enjoyed your trip otherwise.

Hi,

We were in Berlin in August during the World Athletic Championships and the city was HEAVING! So, we bit the bullet and got up at the crack of dawn (well, almost) and arrived at the Reichstag just after it opened at 8AM. The queue was very short and we were inside within 10 minutes with a further 10 or so minutes to go through the quite rigorous security checks.

Definitely worthwhile if the dome is open, otherwise I%26#39;m not so sure unless you have an overpowering interest in either German history or modern architecture. So perhaps worth checking before you set out.

To go to the restaurant it%26#39;s best to pre-book (details here on forum). You then get in through a side-entrance giving the reservation number. We have been several times always for lunch, last time last 4 main courses + 2 bottles of water came to just over 100€ which for the location (and to avoid queuing in the cold) isn%26#39;t bad. Food was delicious (as always). Mineral water was 9€ a litre; other drinks are relatively even pricier; that%26#39;s what soon adds up, as do starters and desserts.
