Berlin to Hamburg

Hi everyone,

i was just wondering if anyone could give me any general advice on travelling from Berlin to Hamburg. There could be a small group consisting of myself and friends travelling over for the Hamburg Vs Celtic match and we should be flying in to Berlin.

Was just wondering how long the journey is via rail and how often the trains run, also is there a train direct from the airport or would we have to travel into town?. any ideas on price and also any quicker/cheaper methods of travel would be welcome!.

many thanks for any replies! (or links)

Chris

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: TXL

From: SXF

To: Hamburg

To: [POI] HSH-Nordbank-Arena

Quickest: by ICE trains from Berlin to Hamburg

DB timetable will suggest by default the quickest solution.

Cheapest: by regional trains

Select for this at the DB timetable as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot;.

Sa or Su: Happy-Weekend-Ticket EUR 37,00 for 1-5 persons. Covers also all local public transport in Berlin and Hamburg.

Mo-Fr past 9am: Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket 1st person EUR 34,00. 2nd to 5th co-traveler + EUR 5,00 each.

Schönefeld Airport (SXF) has a train station and you can buy train tickets from there.

Bus Tegel Airport (TXL) to any train station in Berlin is EUR 2,10 per person.

Buy the tickets to Hamburg-Stellingen or Hamburg-Eidelstedt. See area map of the stadium

hsv-hshnordbank-arena.de/de/…anfahrt.html

From there you can walk in 15-20 minutes to the stadium or take a bus. There are extra buses on such a date.

Also an option is by bus from Berlin. But you have to get to Berlin Ostbahnhof (east station) or Berlin ZOB (central bus station which is anything but central) in first place.

https://www.berlinlinienbus.de/pdfs/hh.pdf

from TXL: EUR 2,10 to either place

from SXF: EUR 2,80 to either place

Travel time is 30-60 minutes.

In Hamburg the ZOB is at least central, next to Hamburg Hbf. Get a 9am mini group ticket (EUR 8,95) for Hamburg.

There is a train from berlins main train station to hamburg twice an hour and it cost between 52 - 65 euros but i dont know if that is only one way and the journey is only 1.5 - 2 hours. I am a celtic fan flying from glasgow to berlin looking to get the train and tht is what i know so far.

Use the link at the top of abalada%26#39;s post if you want to take the train. There are still reduced price ICE tickets for 68 euro going up on the Thursday and returning on Friday (58 if you leave Hamburg before 9:00). Add 2 euro each way for a seat reservation and if you%26#39;re going to be in the city and not leave from the airport, enter Berlin Hbf as your starting point.
