Flying into Memmingen 5th December with my mum for 4 nights, wanted to take her to Xmas markets. Not sure where to base ourselves - Ulm, Augsburg and Munich all have buses direct to/from airport.
We%26#39;ve been to Munich before so thought we might stay somewhere different?
Was thinking of staying in Ulm and maybe taking a day trip to Stuttgart by train - heard the market was good. Alternative would be staying in Augsburg, popping to Munich for the day. Finally have considered just staying in Munich because I love it!
Can anyone help me decide?
thanks

everyone has their own favourites and every town has a xmas market. so if you love munich stick with munich. but its all personal...

...if youre flying into memmingen i assume you are flying in on ryanair from london so youre not in perth? if you have ever been to the london %26#39;german%26#39; xmas market in hyde park you will soon discover what a real german xmas market offers.... hopefully you will get some snow in munich- even better. but bring waterproof warm boots- wet cold feet are a bummer...

Don%26#39;t stay in Ulm and make a day trip to Stuttgart for the Christmas Market, stay in Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ). Ulm ( www.ulm.de ) is small, and you will soon exhaust your options there as a tourist. Do visit the church there with the world%26#39;s tallest steeple, however access up the steeple will be closed if snow or ice are present.
Stuttgart has one of Europe%26#39;s largest, most visited, oldest and most beautiful Christmas Markets ( www.stuttgarter-weihnachtsmarkt.de ) with highly decorated booths set near the Old Palace, New Palace and Stiftskirche (old church). A good portion of the center of Stuttgart is the contiguous Christmas Market which fills up three squares and stretches for many blocks. Stuttgart offers much else to do: excellent museums such as the Mercedes Benz and Porsche ones or the Staatsgallerie for art; excellent opera and world-reknown ballet; Europe%26#39;s largest combination zoo-botanical garden set amidst the nice Moorish architecture of this former palace ( www.wilhelma.de ); three large mineral baths associated with western Europe%26#39;s largest mineral waters; the world%26#39;s first modern TV tower has an observation deck; etc.
15 minutes away by public transportation in the form of S-bahn are another two smaller large themed Christmas Markets that attract over a million visitors each: Esslingen Medieval %26amp; Christmas Market ( www.esslingen.de )set in the excellent well-preserved medieval center of this town, particularly nice at night when lit up by torches; and Ludwigsburg Baroque Christmas Market ( www.ludwigsburg.de ) set near Germany%26#39;s largest perfectly preserved Baroque palace (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de as are the Stuttgart palaces) with several days of interesting excellent things to see and do including the longest and best palace tour that I%26#39;ve been on in Europe.
So by visiting Stuttgart you can get your fill of three large different-styled Christmas markets and also have a lot of other interesting things to see and do. Stuttgart is inexpensively reached from Memmingen using the Baden-Wuerttemberg ticket for 28€ for a group of 2-5 people using regional trains (no ICs, ECs or ICEs). Go to www.bahn.de , change to English near the top of the page, and check using only local transportation to find valid trains on this route using the Baden-Wuerttemberg ticket.
