We are thinking to drive from Frieburg to Rothenburg in early Jan after spending 2 nights in the Titisee region. Is it possible to do in a few hours or should we choose somewhere closer. We don%26#39;t want to spend all day in the car!. We then plan to spend one night in Rothenburg then one night in Bamburg before flying out of Frankfurt on a late flight. Also is %26quot;black ice%26quot; a problem on the roads at that time of year - sorry if it sounds a silly question but we live in the tropics and have never experienced seriously cold weather.
All suggestions appreciated.

From Titisee you better travel eastbound towards the autobahn A81.
Via Freiburg is a big detour.

Yes.

Of course this could be a problem. As well as snow on the roads. At the altitude of Titisee quite likely in early January.
There can be some snow

or a lot of snow

You could do this tour as well by train.

Thanks so much Abalada, will definately visit Freiburg during our stay in the area rather than visiting it enroute to Rothenburg. Thanks for the photos they are fantastic - did you take them? I hope we get lots of snow just like in your shots - very exciting - I can%26#39;t wait!!! We are hiring a 4WD with winter tyres and snow chains and will take it very carefully. Thanks again for your advise. Greetings from a hot and sunny Darwin, NT Aust.
