Activities in Oberstdorf?

HI,

I%26#39;ll be travelling to Oberstdorf in March for a 2 day event and wanted to spend some time doing some activities whilst there.

In March is skiing the main option available or is there anything else on offer in that region? I like active things like biking (powered and pedal), white water rafting, and anything similar.

I%26#39;ve never skiied before so I may also consider giving this a go, if the slopes are okay for beginners - cost is a factor for me as well.

Also, which is the best airport to fly into to reach Oberstdorf and is it difficult to connect from there? My grasp of German is pretty poor!

Many thanks.

If you want to, you can fly to Memmingen on Ryanair and from there take the train to Kempten - Oberstdorf. You can use the Bayernkarte/Bavarian ticket discounted train ticket for EUR23.

Oberstdorf (in the Allgaeu region of the alps) is a major ski resort, and NOT inexpensive. It has quite some apres-ski life. Quite a lot of visitors are not skiers. There is a great cable car ride up to near the top of the Nebelhorn, with the opportunity to hike up further, provided you have the proper footwear for snow conditions.

Obviously, there is no rafting in March and probably also no biking, unless it will have been a poor snow winter.

There are several ski areas for beginning skiers and you can rent boots and skis..

My advise would be to take the public bus from the Oberstdorf train station) to the Kleine Walsertal. This is a valley close to Oberstdorf that is an Austrian enclave of four picturesque villages - - Riezlern, Hirschegg, Mittelberg and Baad. The latter is sort of at %26quot;the end of the world%26quot;. The Walsertal offers many skiing opportunities for beginners and is not quite as expensive as Oberstdorf.
