Planning to take my teenage (15 then) daughter plus the wife to Berlin next Feb/March time to see the City and some of the sites she is covering for her GCSE History (Reichstag, Wall, Brandenburg Gate etc).
Can anyone recommend best areas to stay and any hotels with triple rooms preferably. Reasonable price not outrageous not cheap lol!
Also advice re best things to do, places to eat etc.
I%26#39;ll obviously trawl the guide books but always value TA insights
Thanks in advance

I have staied at AGON_ALDEA hotel www.agon-aldea.de and i was very satisfied. It is very close to Bullowstrasse station on U2, in the middle of east and west Berlin and that means very close to all the interesting areas. U2 is the best line to visit most sights of Berlin. As for prices it was very reasonable even though i don%26#39;t know your budget.

Just read you need a triple. I don%26#39;t know if possible, Im a single traveller, but I bid on priceline and got the Berlin Marriott for a week at $91 ea night, w/taxes $110 total each night which I%26#39;m thrilled at getting. It took a couple of bids but 3* hotels are going for more than that.

You might do better by renting an apt. There are tons of them in Berlin, and this will cost you less than a hotel room plus you will be able to get seperate bedrooms, you get a kitchen to make snacks or breakfast.

Do some themed walking tours. This will help enormously with history and bring it all into context for you daughter and you will have a good time too! There are several listed on the Things to Do in Berlin page here on TA.

Recommended hotels with triple rooms; there are many hotels, but I recommend the Suitehotel near Anhalter Bahnhof. Very good (but not noisy) location, and the hotel is beautiful.

venere is good for searching for triples as you can search for %26quot;3 persons in one room%26quot;. Travelling with kids: the German site hrs.de is also good when you are travelling with kids incl. teenagers as you are offered double + extra bed; expedia also acknowledges any under 18%26#39;s as %26quot;children%26quot; so again double + extra bed comes up, often at no extra charge. We have used all sites a lot (our son is nearly 17) and all are good.
In the past I%26#39;ve stayed at Hotel Tiergarten whichis a family-run 3-star hotel near the interior Ministrry (near Bellevue S-Bahn). Prices are reasonable and the plus there is the absolutely amazing breakfast buffet included in the price.
I%26#39;ve also, as a single traveller, stayed at the Etap Hotel on same street (Anhalter Strasse) as Suitehotel and agree with lylou that the location is fantastic for sightseeing as most sights are within walking distance. Suitehote gives you basic cooking facilities too.
You cd try the Marriott website; we have stayed in Marriotts for the first time this year (in Vienna and Copenhagen) as the rates are very competitive at the moment. And you get two double beds. Marriott location in Berlin is excellent too (near Potsdamer Platz).
As to apartments; we once rented on Novalisstrasse, also walking distance of all sights in Mitte, through 123berlinzimmer.de. We now have our own place in Berlin in what to me is a prettier neighbourhood, though slightly less central near Arkonplatz. It is walking distance to Alexanderplatz, Museum Island etc but there is also the U-Bahn and trams. There is a guest-house/apartment place overlooking Arkonaplatz square that I%26#39;ve come across the website for (but not actually seen inside) That%26#39;s www.hausarkona.de.
Arkonaplatz is a couple of streets below where the Wall ran along BernauerStrasse and the death strip is still visible in places (though now being built on). he Berlin Wall Info centre is about a 10 minute walk away. Finally, for fans of fleamarkets: there%26#39;s one on Arkonaplatz and a much bigger one in Mauerpark, both on Sundays.

I%26#39;ve just booked my parents into the Winter%26#39;s Hotel Gendarmenmarkt Berlin Stadtmitte. It%26#39;s a 4 star hotel, and I definitely saw an option for an extra bed to be put in the room. Gendarmenmarkt seems extremely central (according to the many reviews for this hotel on tripadvisor and other sites as well) seems to be walking distance to most places, and it%26#39;s quite a sought after area apparently, right next to the Stadmitte u-bahn station and very central.
I booked through expedia and paid £134 for the two of them for 3 days! Definitely advise booking through them, as it was cheaper than anywhere else i could find.
http://www.myberlin.co.uk was another good website.

I booked a double at Art Hotel Charlottenburger Hof Berlin for next week actually. I booked it through venere (75 euro a night). I think they have family rooms. It had a few particular draws for me. 1) Computer in every room with FREE internet 2) Restaurant open 24/7 and it%26#39;s in Charlottenburg right across from the S-Bahn.
