I intend on buying a bag at LV in Cologne (I believe near the cathedral) and wondered how I go about claiming the VAT back. I am an Aussie so should be able to claim back. I am doing a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and fly out of Budapest to Prague then on to London and home. Can I claim the VAT at LV in Cologne or do I claim it at Budapest airport or Prague airport or London airport??? Also does anyone know what percentage it is?

Probably the best thing to do is to see if Cologne has a shopping guide which tells how to do duty free shopping. From my Stuttgart guide which was obtainable through its tourist office it states that savings are up to 14.5%. The stated procedures are:
1. Shop where you see the Tax Free Shopping logo and simply ask for your Refund Cheque.
2. STAMP Show your purchases, receipts and passport at the border then have your Global Refund Cheque stamped.
3. REFUND. Collect your refund in cash at nearby Cash Refund Office, or mail back your cheque to Global Refund for direct crediting of your credit card or a bank cheque sent to your address.
As you will be in the EU the entire trip, further:
Tax Free Goods in carry-on luggage- Go to customs only when leaving final destination / airport within the European Union
Tax Free Goods in check-in luggage- Go to customs where you check in your luggage through to its final destination
Further information can be found at www.globalrefund.com .
Therefore the correct place to claim your refund is at a London airport:
London-Gatwick Travelex, Terminal Departure North and South
London-Heathrow Travelex, Terminal 1-4
Because I live within the EU, I have never been able to take advantage of such refunds. There may also be other ways to do this.

When I bought my LV in Paris they filled out the form. The only thing I had to do was have it stamped at the airport before I left.
