At the other end of Germany lies the most beautiful town of Baden Baden should you not already have been there. i suggest this as Ryanair fly direct from Dublin to Karlsruhe/Baden Baden and the prices are fantastic value. The market is absolutely lovely and the town has the most fabulous thermal baths and a lovely pedestrianised town centre also. Stuttgart and the delightful city of Freiburg are just one hour away also should you want an excursion.

Hi

I was in Dusseldorf twice last year. Once during the summer and then I went back for the Christmas Markets.

I really enjoyed the Summer visit as there was loads of lovely bars and restautants along the river bank but these are taken away during the winter.

The Christmas markets were nice but I have to say I prefer the one%26#39;s in Cologne.

We are going back to Cologne for the third time to see the markets again this December and will go to Dusseldorf for a day.

We are flying into Dusseldorf with Aer Lingus and catching a train directly from Dusseldorf airport to Cologne.

I guess its down to personal preference, as personally I preferred the Düsseldorf markets over the Cologne ones!

Cologne has bigger markets and very bustling and crowed (although the medieval market up by the Chocolate Factory is wonderful, small, rustic with lovely food and drinks)

Dusseldorf on the other hand felt more atmospheric, lots of small markets, beautifully decorated, spread out all over the old part of the city.

Bearing in mind it rained the whole time I was at Dusseldorf and still loved it there! :-)

The two cities are pretty close to each other though, so it would be feasible to visit both (along with others in neighbouring towns) Koblenz had a lovely little market too.

Thanks for the info how long does it take to get from Dusseldorf to Cologne by Train

|||

Depending on which train you catch around 20-30 minutes. Not long at all.

I went by boat! :-) It was part of a pre-booked package though, so i couldn%26#39;t advise if there is a regular service between the two towns.

I know there is a regular train service but have not done it myself.

Definitely head to Cologne for the Xmas markets, they are the best!
