Hi,
I%26#39;m thinking of visiting Bremen in December - from 17 Dec for maybe 6 nights. We%26#39;ll be continuing from Belgium (Bruges) to Denmark (Sonderborg, not far from Germany) where my sister lives. So, departure point is Bruges and the destination is Sonderborg. And in the middle, we want to do the northern part of Germany. I%26#39;ve been searching for days and came up with Bremen. I%26#39;m travelling with my three daughters (15, 11 %26amp; 10). I chose Bremen because it looks like a great place and also less pricy than other cities like Hamburg, Cologne.. Here are my questions.
1. Is this a good decision? (choosing Bremen)
2. I have about 6 days. (flexible though. I want to see my sister before Christmas.) Is 6 days too long in Bremen? We%26#39;re happy to include any day trips to other places possible.
3. Thinking of staying at Bremen Youth Hostel. Has anyone stayed here? We need to use public transport.
Any wise thoughts please. (:
Thank you in advance.

Hi Veronica,
Bermen is a pretty good decision to stay (I have lived there for about 2 decades). I cannot advise about the Youth Hostel But I can recommend the follwoing sites to have a first impression.

The %26quot;Überseemuseum%26quot; is surely worth a half days visit, the %26quot;Schnoor%26quot; with its pittoresque architecture as well. The Universum is a science exhibition, pretty nice. Bremen itself has a very tight net of %26quot;Straßenbahnen%26quot; Trams which will help you get along pretty fast. The youth hostel is located quite centrally and just a little bit up the Weser you find the %26quot;Schlachte%26quot; a part of the bank of the Weser with a lot of nice places to eat and drink. Also basically on the opposite side of the river is the becks brewery which also offers tours and tasting.
Torus around the harbour depart only a few hundred meters away from the yh.
For a day trip I recommend Bremerhaven with its old fishing harbour (good food to get especailly at the Kap Horn, beware, only lunch) and the Schiffahrtsmuseum up there.
