train from Berlin to Budapest

spending 2 weeks in Europe end of March with need to be i Vienna Mar 21-24; wondering if there is a direct train from Berlin to Budapest or vice versa. Overnight train would be nice but not essential.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: Berlin

To: Budapest

Timetable for 2010 is however not yet out. You can book anyway at earliest 89 days before departure.

Currently there are 2 direct EuroCity (EC) trains and 1 direct EuroNight (EN) train.

would you recommend the trip during the day or overnight? (in other words, is the journey scenic?)

Really scenic is only the part south to Dresden to the German/Czech border. The rest of this route is nothing special.

The train from Berlin to Budapest can take up to 12 hours. We ended up flying via Air Berlin.

If you have two weeks, why don%26#39;t you break it up a bit? i.e. stop off in Dresden and/or Prague on the way (the train will pass through anyway) - currently it costs €29 from Berlin to Prague on www.db.de , but there may be different offers available next year - it is too early to start thinking about that. Then you could stop off in places like Brno, possibly Bratislava, on the way from there to Budapest. Then get the train to Vienna from Budapest. Within the Czech Republic rail fares are very good value, as are international tickets - from €19 to most destinations https://eshop.cd.cz/international/info.aspx… (but next year this may be different)

As mentioned above, the scenery around the northern Czech border is nice, as is the section south of Brno towards Břeclav which is the main wine-growing area and is a UNESCO protected biozone - no Alps, fjords or herds of wildebeest, but very pleasant all the same.

I agree with Gcek; Take the train! Starting in Berlin hop on the train for the 4-5 hour journey to Prague, continue on to Vienna (3.5 hours) and Budapest (3 hours). You have 2 wks, after all...

Thanks to all for the advice.
