Day Trip Choices

I am taking a escorted tour to Munich this summer. Included on the tour are the obvious castle stops and an extensive city tour. I am a female and will be traveling alone. During the 7 day trip, I will have 2 full days on my own. I am considering a day trip to Dauchau and another one to either Innsbrook or Nuremburg. Do you think it is a good idea to purchase before I go or wait until I arrive? On the 2nd day which do you feel would be more enjoyable Innsbrook or Nuremburg. Also, do you have a tour company you would recommend. I have traveled to Salzburg in the past.

I appreciate your advice.

We just got back from Munich. We did day trips to Neuschwanstein Castle, Dachuau and Salzburg. Dachau is really only a half day tour. We went with Radius tours. They were pretty good and are located in the Munich Train station by track 25. We met some people who went to Innsbruck on a big tour and they said it was a great city. The next time we go I%26#39;d like to see Rothensburg. There are also tours to this scenic little town. I think whatever you decide you%26#39;ll have a good time. I wouldn%26#39;t make reservations before you get there. We just walked up and got on the tour.

Thank you very much for the advice. Radius was actully one of the companies I looked at on the web. They seemed to have some very good options. By any chance did you happen to participate in their free 10 am walking city tour? My tour includes a trip to the Neuschwanstein Castle, Nymphenburg Palace, Passion Paly at Oberammergau. Wiesskirche church, Weltenburg Abbey, and Regensburg including St. Peter%26#39;s.

Dachau can be a full day for the enthusiasts... but half a day at Dachau should suffuce for most...

|||

As Dachau is only 20mins on the S-BAHN from the Hauptbahnhof (running every 20 mins) you can do this yourself at your leisure going/returning when you feel like it. With a Single(persons) -Tageskarte XXL it will cost only €6.70 and you get unlimited travel on the public transport in the White and Green zone (city area plus next zone out)

I appreciate the good advice. It sounds like it would be easier to visit Dachau on my own. Thanks!!!

|||

yip... from main hauptbahnhof station to the dachau concentration camp site budget for approx 50 mins... you jump on a bus when you get to dachau... worth a visit... even if lots of the site is %26#39;reproduction%26#39;...

Lake Chiemsee is beautiful, a lake at the foot of the Alps, and easily reached on the train, about an hour from Munich. There is a castle patterned after Versailles on one of the islands in the lake, and a boat that makes the stop at all the islands.

You might be interested in Mittenwald as well. It%26#39;s a small town south of Munich, about 2 hours by train. It%26#39;s in the middle of the Alps, absolutely gorgeous, with murals painted on many buildings. It%26#39;s very easy to get around in, too.

Regensburg is a LONG way from all those other places, are you sure that%26#39;s on the tour??

Hi,

We loved %26quot;Mad%26quot; King Ludwig%26#39;s Neues Schloss (Herrenchiemsee). We liked the interior here better than at Neuschwanstein.

My opinion is that Innsbruck itself is just ok, (big city, small old town pedestrian zone) although the area is beautiful. I%26#39;d suggest Mittenwald instead. Mittenwald is THE quintessential Bavarian village with a mountain backdrop (IMO). Postcard perfect. For a cable car trip, take the Karwendelbahn in Mittenwald.

Yep it is on the itnerary. We leave Munich and drive to Weltenburg Abbey firt thing in the morning. After lunch we drive to Regensburg. Free time in the city then we will see a performance of the Damspatzen at St. Peter%26#39;s church. After the performance we will return to Munich for the evening meal.
