Has the Frankfurt Christmas market changed?

I lived in Frankfurt 15 years ago and I always thought the Christmas market was lovely. Has the market changed over 15 years? Some of the other markets have become a lot more commercialized now....

I don%26#39;t think it has changed that much. There was a while where I saw this kind of stuff everywhere, but it feels like it is swinging back to being more traditional, more hand-crafted items, etc. For a few years, they had it stretched along the Zeil , which some people liked and others not. I liked it as it made the area around the Römer not near as crowded, one could actually see the items in the stands and move a bit. There has been construction on the Zeil now for over a year, and last year the market was just in the Römer, and a bit down the river. Just this year though, they made the streets that go past the Hauptwache into pedestrian only and they have been having one fest after another there. So, who knows, they may have some stands or possibly a different kind of market down there this year. I haven%26#39;t been able to find out.

I really enjoy being at the Römer though. They have the brass band playing from the gallery of the Alte Nikolai every evening at 20:00, the giant tree in front of city hall, it is simply very pretty. Visiting the nativity scenes in the several medieval churches that surround this area is also quite nice, so make some time for that too.

I can not wait, it will be my first Frankfurt Christmas market in 20 years...
