Staying in Munich in Feb 2010, nearby ski resorts?

I%26#39;ve booked a flight to Munich for 4 nights in February 2010 and due to Munich%26#39;s proximity to the alps, are there any ski resorts where I can leave Munich early morning, get a days skiing in and return to Munich that evening? As a day trip, I fancy a day skiing.

I remember reading something about similar trips from Munich last year but can%26#39;t find much info.

Thanks,

Martin

Best in that area? Good price, gorgeous view, very good slopes, and only 55 mins away..

Garmisch!

Lenggries would be an excellent choice. It%26#39;s even faster to get there than to Garmisch - by train 1 h vs. 1.25 h. I have skied both - for a day (or two) Lenggries offers more than enough variety.

Can I get to Lenggries by train and if so will the Bavaria Ticket cover my journey?

At Lenggries, how much is a daily lift pass and are there any ski rental shops there? I%26#39;ve got a low cost flight to Munich and taking my own equipment will end up costing more than my flight.

Thanks?

The day lift pass is 28 Euro. Take the train from Munich to Lenggries and from the train station take the RVO bus or ski bus to the Brauneck lifts. The schedules are co-ordinated - five minutes after the train arrives do the RVO buses leave and eight minutes after the bus arrives do the trains to Munich leave. The Bayern-Ticket (or Bayern-Ticket Single) is valid on the train and the RVO buses, the ski bus is free.

There are two ski rentals right at the lift station Brauneck if I recall correctly. One of them belongs to Michaela Gerg, a former world cup ski racer:

Getting to ski-resorts is easy if you have a car. I make many weekend day trips. However if you have no personal transport then it is possible to get a direct train from Munich Hauptbahnhof to Garmisch. The best way however to do day trips if you have no transport is to go with one of the companies that operate Ski bus trips. They depart central munich and go to a ski resort normally in Austria. Normally you will get a coffee and sandwich and skipass in the price. Many normally operate at weekends only however

Heres one in english

This following one is operated by one of the big Munich sports shop companies (german only)

Sport Schuster operate trips but rarely publish them many days in advance

or

if your dates happen to match you could try the Munich Ski Club - predominantly english they have day trips at weekends and you can go with them as a non-member if you pay an extra charge

Eagle2002 and Giftzwerg, both of your advice is great.

I%26#39;m aware that some companies do trips from Munich. Most of them for around €50 which I think is great value!

I%26#39;m going to look at each individual resort then go from there!
