First time in Berlin: 3 full days enough?

Hi, I%26#39;m flying to Berlin in June 2010. Are three full days enough to see the most important sights?

I%26#39;m not into the nightlife - I just want to see the history and experience the culture.

You now have three posts on the same subjects. You really need to spend some time reading the many threads and trip reports on this and other travel forums. Buy a guide book and do some reading on your own and check on the %26quot;More on Berlin%26quot; section on the left side of this forum for some basics.

Berlin is huge with many things to do, see and experience but is not a one size fits all city. Invest some time in learning about Berlin and then post some specific questions to get help in narrowing it down.

In brief, three days are not really enough. You could certainly hit the %26#39;highlights%26#39; in three days but you need to figure out what YOUR highlights are, as Caviargal has suggested: do some background research on this forum (there%26#39;s a LOT here), and start looking over a good guidebook, perhaps DK Eyewitness Berlin for example. Learn a bit about what%26#39;s in Berlin and plan from there. Though I must say, the suggestions you received about focusing on one part of Germany on the Munich Forum were excellent ones, and trying to do Munich and Berlin in six days is pushing things ...

More to see in Berlin than Munich, in my view.

It%26#39;s not a question of nightlife so much as museums maybe. You can see the main sights in 3 days but if you wanted to add a few museums 3 days is nowhere long enough.

Just returned from 6 full days in Berlin (after 4 in Vienna) and felt we only scratched the surface. Berlin is 20 times the physical size of NYC - it%26#39;s huge! Berlin has many, many things to keep you occupied. Follow others advice here and research what the city has to offer.

My advice would be to spend as many days as possible to get a feel for what Berlin was, is and has yet to become.

Thank you, guys. I know this is crazy but I%26#39;m extending my trip to Eastern Europe and will have to only spend 3 full days in Berlin, and 2 full days in Munich. The rest would be divided between Poland (Warsaw/Krakow), Vienna, Prague and Budapest.

Pick either Berlin, or Munich, and spend 5 days there including a day trip or two. Leave the other city for another trip.

|||

Good luck on that ...

As pointed out on another recent post, those other destinations are also in Central Europe. %26quot;Eastern Europe %26quot;was a Cold War definition of the countries that were part of Soviet Bloc. Prague is west of Vienna, for a start.

At a pinch you cd rush round Prague/Vienna/Budapest as well as Berlin +/- Munich. Adding Poland really is impossible. Look at a map!!

Before planning this, my friend and I looked at the map and we have plotted our our itinerary already in a realistic way. It would involve some flying to save some time (Munich- Berlin and Berlin - Warsaw). The rest would be by train:

Warsaw - Krakow

Krakow - Prague

Prague - Budapest

Budapest - Vienna

Vienna - Munich (via Salzburg)
