Munich to Rothenburg

Would like to do a Two days trip from Munich to Rothenburg next May (2010). Would it be possible if we take the Gray Line bus tour or the Viator Tour and stay overnight in Rothenburg and then get the next day bus back ?

Or we have to take the train by ourselves from Munich if we want to stay overnight in Rothenburg ?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Definitely take the train and do it yourself.

You can wait and buy your ticket when you get to Munich. You can use the vending machine or go to the Reisen Zentrum (Travel Center) and one of the agents will help you. While you will pay an extra EUR 2 for using the travel center, it%26#39;s helpful to know that it%26#39;s there if you get stumped by the machine.

Ask for a Bayern ticket. If traveling on a weekday, you have to travel after 9 am. On the weekend you can travel earlier.

The train station in Rothenburg is within easy waling distance of the center of the walled town. However, if it%26#39;s raining or you%26#39;re tired, a taxi isn%26#39;t too expensive. It was EUR 10 for 5 us from neare the town square to the train station.

There are lots of accommodations in Rothenburg and you can easily book a room yourself.

Don%26#39;t miss the Nightwatchman Tour while you are there.

Here%26#39;s a link to my report on traveling using group tickets.
