Best western ost hotel (East side)

Hello,

We have just booked flights to spend christmas in Berlin and are fflying to Shoenfeld airport. We were looking at the best western, east side but it looks like links to here are not great from the airport.

Could someone advise who has been to the Best Western how they got there, and how easy to travel around from there also,

Thanks.

i%26#39;ve booked for this hotel for my trip in November! i%26#39;ve not stayed in this actual hotel before but always stay in that area.

The hotel is right next to Samariter Strasse station, which is on the U5 line. This line goes to Alexanderplatz and is a regular and quick service, then from Alexanderplatz its easy to get to just about anywhere in the city!

Usually, to get here from Schoenefeld, you catch one of the various S-bahn and RE (regional trains) to Alexanderplatz (I can%26#39;t recall the actual train numbers as i usually jump on the first S-bahn going the right direction!) However i understand there is engineering works on the S-bahn line at the moment - check on the website www.bvg.de for information on this and their recommended route into the city.

Fingers crossed the works will have improved by the time you get there. Its a relatively painless journey from the airport to hotel, honest! :-)

Thats brilliant thank you!

We have now confirmed the booking there and cant wait.

As youve been to that area before can you recommend any of the bars youve been to or places to eat also please?

Hi BoltonMonkeyfish,

The hotel is in a great spot for food and drink. With your back to your hotel, cross the road and then walk to the right. When you hit the Roma restaurant then turn left into the side street and you will find restaurant after restaurant and bar after bar. All types of food and prices very good. Enjoy your trip.

Regards,

Supervanman.

I%26#39;m probably referring to the same area as Supervanman in the above comment - Simon Dach Strasse is renowned for its bars and restaurants. If this link works, here is a map of the area: http://alturl.com/5gsc

On the crossroads of Simon Dach Strasse and Grunberger Strasse is where most of them are concentrated - i usually go there for a brunch buffet on Saturday or Sunday mornings, picking a new one each time I visit! :-)

Hundertwasser Cafe/Bar is very nice for mediterranean type food and cocktails.

On Samariter Strasse itself, just opposite the Tulip Inns hotel, there is a very, very cheap Italian restaurant. The food isn%26#39;t fancy but generously portioned and tasty, with a very eccentric charm. We%26#39;ve had some fun evenings there! :-)

I was there in January and it is REALLY easy to get there from Schonefeld airport. You get the S bahn train straight to Alexanderplatz, and change to the 5 U bahn (brownline). You need to walk down lots of stairs. It is 5 stops to Samaritestrasse (sp), and the U bahn is right outside the hotel. When you get off the train, turn right and walk up the stairs and talk the left fork,or you will be dodging death across the road!

There are restaurants and bars there, but we just jumped on the train to Alexanderplatz and went there,Trains run till about midnight (later on weekends). Get an all day ticket, and don%26#39;t forget to get it validated or you will get a nasty fine.

HI

Just returned from a 4 night trip staying at BW Ost. Excellent location for travelling around Berlin. We got the S Bahn from Schonefeld to Frankfurter Alley. We actually walked from there to the hotel on arrival (half a mile or less) but you can get on the U Bahn with a stop outside the hotel almost. We didn%26#39;t have any problems with engineering works. All trains were on time always. We were very impressed with the transport system - clean, reliable and plenty of trains.

The airport is in travel zone C so we just bought a one way ticket in to the centre 2.80 Euros I think. However, you are better off getting the day ticket for zones ABC if you are going to be travelling around on the day. From there on, I would say zone AB is ok and f you are a group of 5 or more, the day ticket for 5 is a good value then singles for remaining members of the group - e.g. one group ticket and one single day ticket for a group of 5. As said previoulsy, you get it validated at a little machine next to the ticket vending machine. Easy.

Rooms at the hotel fairly small (although I have been in smaller ones) but they were spotless and comfortable. For 5 euors deposit we had a box with a kettle and cups and satchets of tea, coffee, powdered milk. Just ask for this at reception. Only earl tea in the box and we didn%26#39;t bother asking if they had ordinary tea. I asked for milk and was given a litre carton at no charge.

We ate near the hotel a couple of evenings and for breakfast most days. Much better value than staying in for the hotel breakfast. Can recommend the Mediterannean Restaurant for food and cocktails. Turn right out of the hotel; down to the lights and cross the road and it is on your right. You can%26#39;t miss it - it%26#39;s set back off the road. Friendly staff and really good food, also very reasonable.

Have a lovely trip. We enjoyed and this hotel was certainly a %26#39;good buy%26#39;.
