Nothing, just choosing the wrong time of the day. There are 4-5 direct connections every day. You just need to look later or earlier than you entered.

There is no meaningful %26quot;border%26quot; (administratively there are actually two, but you won%26#39;t see them except in the form and color of station signs) and passports stopped to be stamped in Europe long, long ago. Nobody will be interested in your passport.

thank you. i put in the next day. no train change, 4:30 hours. is that right? zurich to lecern :50 min. munich is not that much more in distance.

Just checked and saw that there a one-way flights Munich-Zurich starting at 84 EUR in November.

You can certainly find cheap flights between Munich and Zurich BUT when evaluating that option remember to...

make sure you are getting a DIRECT flight if possible

keep the luggage restrictions in mind

be aware that trains will take from center city to center city

factor in the time it will take to get through airport security

Hi louallyxx,

Are you thinking that München to Zürich is about the same distance as Zürich to Luzern? Not so.

München to Zürich is about 318 km

Zürich to Luzern is about 60 km

Or have I misread your post?

Yes, I agree with Intrepid1 above; a train trip needs to be more than eight hours long before a flight is any faster, what with transport to the airport, security, waiting, the flight, getting your bags, and transport into the city again. And I think a train is a lot more relaxing and interesting.

Anyway, good luck!

Even a direct flight from MUC to ZRH will not get you from one city to the other faster than a train. A flight is an alternative if you start from somewhere well north of Munich (Freising, Landshut etc.) where you are nearer to the airport than to the city, but if you start from Munich you will need an hour just to get to the airport.

So even a cheap direct flight is neither faster nor cheaper than a direct train.
