Kiel Germany

Hi we will be arriving Kiel on a cruise ship for a day(6am-5pm) please advise how we should spend the day so we won%26#39;t miss the %26quot;MUST SEE%26quot; attractions. Also the weather and transportation from the port to city center.

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiel. It gives you a good run-down on Kiel and what%26#39;s worth while to visit. I assume you will be in Kiel following or before the transit of the %26quot;Kiel Kanal%26quot; This is a very interesting transit between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, through the Holstein region of Germany. Yes, you will see Holstein cows! The history of the canal is also interesting. It was built by Kaisr Wilhelm to be able to move his fleet between Kiel (a major fleet harbor) and the Elbe and the North Sea.

My friend and I (retired schoolteachers) are coming to Kiel on 3rd September 2010 and catching a cruise ship on 4th September.%26#39;We would be grateful to know of the nearest cheap lodgings to the cruise ship area, and of the things we should be seeing in Kiel.

Any other information we should have will be gladly received.
