Luxury Hotel and Driving in Munich

Hi,

I am organising a trip for 2 people to drive from the UK to several European destinations.

In each destination I%26#39;d like to put them up in a very nice, central hotel (obviously with car parking facilities!). My budget isn%26#39;t limitless, but I%26#39;d like a very nice 4* plus hotel.

Also, I%26#39;ve just read about the %26quot;umwelt%26quot; sticker required for driving in central Munich. The car we will be driving is an %26quot;eco%26quot; car, but not registered in Germany.

I%26#39;d be very grateful for any hotel recommendations - and any info anyone has on who I should speak to about %26quot;registering%26quot; our car, if required!

Vielen Dank!

The Sofitel Bayerpost is the nicest hotel we have stayed in in Munich so far.

It is modern and located at the central station. Not sure about the car park.

Sally: Try this one, my fav 5-star in Munchen:

The Hilton at Rosenheimerplatz has parking as does the holiday inn across the road.

Yes you do need a sticker for the car (if you get caught without one it is €40 fine I think).

If you were able to do it yourself you can go to any TÜV centre with your V5 and they would issue you one (hopefully) for €5. Alternatively there is a commercial company

who do this for a fee

I%26#39;ve stayed in the Hilton Munich City (Rosenheimer Platz) and liked it BUT if you want the supposed %26quot;biggie%26quot; then I think you should look at the Mandarin Oriental.

The design Hotel Louis opened last month and looks stunning - prices to match.

There is also the Rocco Forte.

It all depends on your price point and how you define %26quot;very nice%26quot;.

...whats your budget? The %26#39;star%26#39; system isnt as uniform as everyone believes. The Dorchester is a 5 star hotel in london- are you seeking just below this level?

Another vote for the Sofitel Bayerpost. Lovely hotel and quite quirky too. Very memorable.

The bakerischerhof, Kempinski, and aforementioned Man. Oriental are top noth, but maybe a bit highly priced for many people. The Sofitel and Excelsior are excellent 4 to 4.5 star hotels for a bit less.

We stayed at Hilton City Center in August. Lovely accomodations with a fabulous breakfast. We booked online via the Hilton website and got a package deal with breakfast included. Location can%26#39;t be beat as it is directly above Rosenheimerplatz station and within walking distance of some very quaint italian bistros and coffee shops. There is parking onsite. I highly recommend parking your car and taking subway into downtown Munich. Driving and parking were a nightmare during summer...not sure about the rest of the year.

Hi All,

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions - that%26#39;s a great help! Am going to have a look at them all now!
