Christmas Markets - Hotel suggestions

Hi

We are hoping to go to the Christmas markets at the end of November, we have been to Christmas markets before, but this will be our first time visiting Cologne.

I have no idea where would be best to stay, so I was hoping someone would be able to advise. Preferably at least a 4 star hotel and within walking distance of the markets...

I stayed at the Renaissance at Friesenplatz during the christmas markets last year-easy walking distance to the markets at Rudolfplatz, Neumarkt and Stadtgarten. The others are an easy tram ride away.

I usually recommend the Coellner Hof and so far every one has been thoroughly happy with it. Fabulous breakfast buffet, lovely rooms and spacious and very old world elegant looking. The price is very reasonable though. Probably around 75 euro for a double and it is barely 10 min. walk from the main train station.

The first two times I stayed inthe NH Koln City Centre. This is on the river oppostie the Chocolate museum.

This time we are staying at the Mercure Severinshof Hotel which is located about 2 streets behind the NH as it included breakfast for €4 more for the entire trip. We got a good deal with www.yeego.com.

Which hotel are you asking about?

The train station is not that far from the river, so any hotel that is near the station will also be near the river. If you go to any of the hotesl websites, they will give you their location, with maps and all.

If you want to get a good idea of a hotels location then use google maps.

Just open google maps, use the get directions options.

In the first box put the name and address of your hotel or even the name and city should be enough.

In the second box put the location of the chirstmas markets either the one at the dom or the one at the alt markt and then set the method to walking anc click get directions.

This will give you the walking time and distance.
