Weihnachtsmarkt - Köln versus Frankfurt

Hi guys - we just booked a trip to Germany over the holidays and are scheduled to arrive on Dec. 18th. Our primary purpose is to visit family (close to Siegen).

Obviously, there are quite a few Christmas markets happening just about anywhere. If you had to choose between the Weihnachtsmarkt in Frankfurt and those in Köln, which one would you choose?

I should add that we went to the markets in Cologne last year and actually quite liked some of them. Just wondering if it%26#39;s worth trying something new this year.

Also, if there are any other X-mas markets anywhere in the Frankfurt, Giessen, Siegen, Cologne, Duesseldorf general area that you%26#39;d recommend, which ones do you think stand out?

For us, it%26#39;s not about drinking Glühwein - although I wouldn%26#39;t say No to a mug - and it%26#39;s also not about purchasing endless kitsch. I think we are looking for atmosphere, with a few unique products (in Cologne, they were selling local mustard, jam, and honey, which we loved).

I%26#39;ve looked into Nürnberg as well, but I believe it would be too far for us (we are traveling with an infant and can%26#39;t be on the road/on a train for too long).

I like very much Aachen Weihnachtsmarkt , but also Siegen has its own Weihnachtsmarkt

Both Bonn and Frankfurt have excellent Christmas Markets, well worth a visit. They are nearby. Aachen is also lovely, too. There are also several Christmas markets in Cologne, if you did not see them all.
