Munich Airport to City Center using S Bahn and Return

What is the one way cost for the S1 or S8 trains to and from the airport from the center? Are tickets sold in DB machines? How frequently do they depart? What is the journey time? Do we need to stamp our tickets at the platform before getting on? Is it open seating? In both directions are the airport and hauptbahnhof stops announced in English clearly so one can not miss getting off at the right stop or are they the last stops on these lines?

How long before departure time should we arrive at the airport for international flights?

Thank you.

%26gt; What is the one way cost for the S1 or S8 trains to and from the airport from the center?

Mini group (2-5 persons) is EUR 18,00. This is already for 2 persons the better deal than 2 single tickets (EUR 9,20 each).

%26gt; Are tickets sold in DB machines?

DB or MVV ticket machines.

%26gt; How frequently do they depart?

Each line runs every 20 minutes. Thus roughly a train every 10 minutes.

%26gt; What is the journey time?

~ 43 minutes

%26gt; Do we need to stamp our tickets at the platform before getting on?

Yes.

%26gt; Is it open seating?

Yes.

%26gt; In both directions are the airport and hauptbahnhof stops announced in English clearly so one can not miss getting off at the right stop

Yes. There are also displays showing the next stop.

%26gt; or are they the last stops on these lines?

The airport is the last stop for both S-Bahn lines.

Hauptbahnhof is however not.

%26gt; How long before departure time should we arrive at the airport for international flights?

There are differences between inner EU/Schengen flights, other international flights and most time consuming flights to the US or Israel. Best to ask your airline about this.

30-45 minutes before last check-in should be sufficient.

By centre do you mean Marienplatz. Just to mention the S8 goes via the Ostbahnhof then through city centre to Hauptbahnhof (Marienplatz 38mins). The S1 goes the opposite direction via Hauptbahnhof first then through city centre to Ostbahnhof - (Marienplatz 48 mins). There are indeed digitial displays indicating next destination stop; however the audio info is not always on

And this is valid for the whole of Munich (S-Bahn. U-Bahn, Bus, Tram) until next day 6 am.

So what you%26#39;re saying is that when you buy an S-bahn ticket from the airport, it is good for the rest of that day, i.e. there are no time constrictions on the S-bahn?

Yes. Read here:

The mini group day ticket for EUR 18,00 is valid for a day. Or more exactly from the time of validation (stamping) till 6am next day.

With a single ticket for EUR 9,20 you have 4 hours time to reach your destination. But for 2 persons the mini group day ticket is with EUR 18,00 already less than 2 singles (2 x 9,20 = 18,40).

Either ticket covers all types of local public transport in Munich:

- regional trains

- S-Bahn

- U-Bahn (metro)

- trams

- buses
