travelodge type accomodation

does anyone know of a German equivelent of Travelodge type accomodation.

We need this option as a backup as we intend to use B%26amp;Bs etc.

Also any links to B%26amp;B sites please

You are asking about hotels and B%26amp;B%26#39;s suggestions for an entire country! Give us a hint?

Where are you going? What is your budget? When will you be here? How many people?

I understand your question! Answer is probably Ibis. It%26#39;s part of the French Accor hotels group. They also have Etap Hotel (more basic but still en-suite; I%26#39;ve stayed at one in central Berlin several times in the past, a great bargain) . More upscale are Mercure and Novotel. The Accor website wd tell you all their hotels for a given location, with prices/offers to help you decide.

Mercure often has good deals if you book in advance so it might be no dearer than an Ibis. We got a great deal for a Mercure in central Munich on hrs.de, which is a really good website to find hotels, particularly in Germany. Good if you are travelling as a family with kids because of the search options.

Bornheingirl

My question was for general info as the above poster realised.

just to clarify matters though there will be 4 adult traveling, myself and my husband and my in-laws. In-laws have travelled extensively in Germany as my father in law was born there but was taken away at the outbreak of war.

My husband spent all his holidays in Germany as a child but has not been for many years.

We need to find reasonably priced accomodation as we intend to mainly visit places that are new to most of us and certainly to me as i have not been before

Our intended route is:

Calais

Trier

Cochem

Bamberg

Dresden (father in laws birthplace)

Prague

Vienna

Saltzberg

Munich

Zurich

Bern

Geneva

Lyon

Dijon

Paris

Calais

I will obviously be posting on all the relevent TA forums re. the other countries but if anyone would like to share their knowledge about the above please feel free!

we are flexible in our itinerery and realise that it may need to be altered.

we plan to take 4 weeks and spend £50 - £60 per night per room ( less if possible)

Hope that clears things up

Please allow an ignorant German to ask what a %26quot;travelodge%26quot; is...

|||

should also add we are going July and August 2010

A Travelodge is a basic hotel chian in the UK (possibly in other countries too)

They are clean (usualy) and very reasonably priced, as little as £19 if you book early enough. that is room only, they are similar to Ibis which i have stayed in before.

no matter where you go in uk you are never far from a Travelodge!

Hope this clears it up but if not just ask

Neither B%26amp;B nor hotel chains are a German invention.

B%26amp;B are often just %26quot;B%26quot;. Normally listed under private accommodation in Germany. For B%26amp;B, pensions, guest houses the best source are the local/regional tourist offices, i.e. their websites. There is no nation wide portal which lists even 1% of the market. And the ones who are listed, i.e. the ones which are ready to pay for this, are - no surprise - the more expensive ones.

For hotels this is easier. Use services like

http://www.hrs.com

http://www.hotel.de

Ahhh okay, thank you for the explanation. English is not my first language and I had never heard that word before. Maybe because I usually avoid this type of hotels...

The cheapest hotel chain that is frequent in Germany is Etap. Those hotels are, however, usually located on the outskirts of the cities far away from anything interesting, so you save money but lose a lot of precious time commuting. Ibis is often close to train stations, more central locations but higher price level.

The most complete list of accommodation per city or town, including the small private-owned hotels, B%26amp;B%26#39;s (%26quot;Pension%26quot;), inns (%26quot;Gasthöfe%26quot;), rooms for rent in private houses (%26quot;Privatzimmer%26quot;) and apartments (%26quot;Ferienwohnungen%26quot;) can be found on the websites of the local tourist offices. Google %26quot;name of place%26quot; + %26quot;tourist information%26quot;.
