Munich weather in 1st week of December

I will be staying in Munich for the 1st week of December 2009. I%26#39;ll be taking day trips to Ludwig%26#39;s castle, Salzburg, Nuremburg, Dachau, and also visiting the Christmas markets. Can anyone advise me on how to dress? What%26#39;s the average temperature, does it snow this early?? etc.. Any weather advice would be helpful.

Thank you!

The weather in Germany is highly variable. I suspect the same can be said for Boston. You can look at averages at weather com.

…yahoo.com/Munich-Germany/…statistics.html

We were there last December and going back this year. We take layers: for us a rain proof shell and warmth layers, and what ever we normally wear. The worst in my mind is to be cold and wet. Snow is less likely and less of a problem than cold rain.

Regards, Gary

I have been to Munich in early December 5x and headed there again on 5 December..

Layers are the best way to pack and you should pack an umbrella as well as gloves, scarf and hat. I wear a full length fur coat which has worked best for me. My husband wears a thigh length ski coat.

We both wear boots and my Uggs are perfect for the range of weather we normally encounter. We have rarely had snow in Munich but did on side trips to Garmisch, etc. Almost always some rain.

It%26#39;s a perfect time of year to go - have fun!

Thanks Gary! Didn%26#39;t think about cold, rainy conditions, just snow. Thanks for the insight!

We go 4th December and I was hoping for snow!!!

The weather can be variable in early december. Over the years it has been full of snow and 1 time remember being in a t-shirt in earlymid december just going off to play golf. Normally just above freezing and maybe some snow or light rain

If I was coming to Boston in the first week of Boston what would you advise me to bring just in case? When you have written that answer, print it out and use it as your preliminary packing list. Then, starting a week or so before Thanksgiving start checking the 10 day forecasts for Munich on some website like weather.com. Refine from there, but don%26#39;t forget hat, gloves, scarf and umbrella.

I%26#39;ve been in Munich for two Decembers and highly recommend rugging up! (Mind you, I am from Australia, so perhaps more sensitive to the cold than your average European!).

I found that the wool innersoles for your shoes (I picked up a pair from the Christmas markets) were a fantastic idea to stop my toes from going numb. I%26#39;d also recommend layering. It can be very cold/snowy/rainy/windy (and even sometimes quite pleasant!), so layers allow you to adjust to changes...plus buildings and houses are quite warm and you%26#39;ll find yourself very hot if you don%26#39;t have lighter layers under heavier coats.

Enjoy your travels!

Down in the lowlands and cities snow is not very likely in early December, although possible. If you go up into the Alps chances are better, but still there is no guarantee.

The worst conditions of all are temperatures slightly above zero, rain and strong wind. Trust me, there is nothing more uncomfortable. And this is common in our winter.

The weather in these parts is impossible to predict 3 months in advance. It is, in fact, impossible to predict for more than 2 or 3 days in advance, even less in the mountains. Wear water-resistant boots with soles that have a good grip, and put inlay soles in to keep your feet warm. Glühwein warms your hands and stomach but not your feet.

Rain- and windproof jacket (Goretex or similar) with fleece lining. Scarf, gloves, hat - wool or fleece (dries easier). Otherwise the golden rule is: dress in layers. Two thin layers keep warmer than one thick layer and are easier to adjust when you enter a heated building for indoor activities of any kind.

Don%26#39;t worry about looking fashionable. Germans are practical people. Dress code No. 1 is: must be suitable for current weather conditions. High-heeled pumps on a Christmas market will not be admired but either pitied or made fun of, depending on the character of the observers. People wear their outdoor gear as everyday jacket in the cities, too.
