Changing trains at Munich-Pasing

We will be going from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the Munich airport and will have to change trains at the Munich-Pasing station. The train schedule shows a 16-minute transfer between trains. We are unfamiliar with this station. Will it be difficult to make this transfer in time to catch the train to the airport?

You probably need to consult one of the U/S-Bahn maps..I%26#39;ve inserted a link for you

At Pasing you can change to one of the S-Bahn trains....S-8 will take you through the city center and on to the airport.

You might do better if you changed at Pasing and went just one stop further and then took the S-1 out to the airport.

regular rail trains such as the one you will be on from Garmisch DO NOT run to the airport....you need to use the S-Bahn trains instead.

Thanks for your reply. When I checked the Rail Europe schedule, it appears that you can take a connection from Garmisch to the airport (at Munich-Pasing). It doesn%26#39;t indicate that you switch to the U/S-bahn, but maybe that%26#39;s the case since they don%26#39;t show a non-stop train from Munich-Pasing to the airport independent from the connection out of Garmisch (did that make sense?)

Thanks for the heads up!

Hi firsttimeeurope52,

I take this route often. Your best resource is the German rail page itself, not Raileurope. You%26#39;ll get all the information on individual trains, times, and track numbers. Start at

www.bahn.de

Change it to English, then input your departure and destination.

One thing to note. Unfortunately, trains can be late. Normally 16 minutes will be 12 minutes too long for smooth transfer, but if your incoming train is 10 minutes late ... ouch!

Trains leave from Garmisch-Partenkirchen just about every hour, so I would really take an earlier train than necessary, just to be sure. Just use the German rail site and get an early train.

Have fun!

I am finding that my best fares will come from using each country%26#39;s individual rail websites, like the one you posted, rather than using Rail Europe. (We will be bouncing around Europe for 2 weeks.) I have been under the impression that the German rail system was stellar with respect to on-time performance, so I%26#39;m glad you let me know otherwise so I can plan for the possibility of a late train. The longest transfer time I%26#39;ve seen is 28 minutes, so I hope that will be enough!

Thanks for responding!

Hi again,

Do you know about the Bavaria Ticket? For 28 E, 2-5 people can travel all day on all the regional trains in Bavaria. All the trains on the route from Garmisch to the airport are regional, so you and four friends can get to the airport for 28E. You only need to travel after 09.00. Here%26#39;s a link to more information, just click on %26quot;Bavaria.%26quot;

bahn.de/international/…laender_tickets.shtml

Have fun!

No, I had not come across that information yet. Unfortunately, we need to be at the airport by about 10-10:30a.m., but I will definitely consider it while we%26#39;re in Garmisch because there are 5 in our party. I have already printed out that specific web page to have as a reference. Thank you so very much!
