12 days in Germany

Hi,

My Husband and I are in the very early stages of planning our 4 month europe trip, we are up to our Germany stage. Our current plans have us arrive into germany (Berlin possibly) from Stockholm. We have 12 days dedicated to Germany before making our way to Switzerland.

Here are the things we hope to see while in Germany... can you advise if this is a realistic possibility, and what sequence would be best to visit these loations - if we are using public transportation?

Berlin - shopping, history, culture

Possibly a concentration camp ? where?

Heidelberg

Romantic road - a friend said this is a must

Black Forest - my husband likes the look of it, I%26#39;m not really fimilar with it, but plan to research it.

Thanks.

Forgot to mention - we will be in Germany mid to late June.

Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg is near Berlin (youcan take an S-Bahn train there).

If you went to Munich, Dachau would be another option. The Romantic Road passes quite near Munich at its southern end; however that is taking you away from the Black Forest, and Switzerland (Füssen, the end of the road, is on the border with Austria) whereas Heidelberg is towards the Black Forest. The Black Forest is lovely, with very pretty villages.

The SW corner of Germany by Switzerland is the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg which is the second most visited part of Germany ( www.baden-wuerttemberg.de ; www.tourismus-bw.de ; www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de for the excellent castles, palaces, monasteries and gardens operated by this state). Both Heidelberg and the Back Forest are there. Some other useful websites are:

Black Forest www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info

Lake Constance www.bodensee-tourismus.com

Swabian Alb (my favorite area of Germany with its numerous castes and caves and excellent cliffside scenery) www.schwaebischealb.de and two fairytale-like castes of the Alb, www.burg-hohenzollern.com and www.schloss-lichtenstein.de latter only in German)

Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) for a major city with large city attractions such as the Mercedes Benz and Porsche Museums, and extensive vineyards ( www.stuttgarter-weinwanderweg.de )

the lovely old college town of Tuebingen www.tuebingen.de

Some great information! I will have a look at all the links - It sounds as though my Husband is very keen to visit the Black Forest.

I was wondering if the following route would be possible, or if it would mean a lot of back tracking. Also, if w only hired a car for the Romantic Road section of our trip, would it be reasonable easy to make our own way - we are use to driving on the left and do not speak German - We will have a phrase book to hopefully help.

Possible route:

Berlin -

munich - (day trip to Dachau)

Fussen - travel Romantic Road to Wurzburg (how many days is the norm?)

Heidelberg

Make way to Black Forest area - still to research.
